Rutherford, pictured here, is a lifelong Coloradan. After traveling to Nebraska for his birth in 1924,
his mother returned with her newborn son to Eastern Colorado where the Rutherford family that would eventually grow to six
living members resided until 1935. The family relocated at that time to Frisco, Colorado, where they acquired
a 157 acre ranch. Rutherford made his mark in the mountain community, then enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and served
in WWII until 1946. The family remained on the Rutherford Ranch until Rutherford's father Russell felt
compelled to sell the ranch in 1957 after polio struck the older daughter Mildred and the Korean War took the
life of the younger brother Dean. Upon his return
from the Navy, Rutherford became a construction contractor for both commercial and residential projects in the Denver area.
He retired in 1989 and lives in Federal Heights with his wife, Lois. He has three children, seven grandchildren,
and six great-grandchildren.
